Mick is an excellent trainer and mentor and was instrumental in overseeing the promotion of Chief Officers to Masters at Chevron's training facility in Glasgow where he lectured in ECDIS, Advanced Ship Handling, Bridge Resource Management as well as the development of Soft Skills training. He is an excellent communicator and is well known for getting the most out of the teams he has managed. During his time working at Chevron's head offices in California, he honed his skills in Technical writing where he was an integral part of the Marine Standards team. Mick has gone on to assist companies with full rewrites of company SMS documents and Navigation Manuals ensuring that they are easy to understand, robust and able to stand up to any regulatory bodies scrutiny.

During his 15 years with Chevron, he was heavily influenced by Chevron's Tenets of Operational Excellence and is a great advocate for their importance and relevance in marine operations. He ensures that these are explained to every crew member trained by Mick and will always be grateful for their existence.
